Action, Immediate:
Research the Peak Oil links in the Resources Page. Look at the information, contemplate the magnitude of the consequences as we begin the inescapable slide towards "lights out," then draw your own conclusions.
Action, Short Range:
Spread the word. Forward this web site to your friends, colleagues, associates, etc. whom you think might be interested in the Novacadia Alliance initiative. It requires a nano-second of your time, a simple click of the mouse. Check in to the site periodically to see about networking updates. A Facebook group called Novacadia Network has been opened.
Get involved. There definitely are no "musts" in this world. The only real freedom we have as individuals is the freedom of opportunity. There are three sub-levels for getting involved at the current cyber stage should anyone so wish:
If you have questions or wish to offer input/feedback, then you are encouraged to jump over to the dedicated blog for this site. When suitable, all content updates to this site will also be posted on the blog. Once there, you have the further option of informing us if you wish to take part in an IM session.
If you wish to be kept abreast of announcements and developments, please drop us an email and place in the subject field "Novacadia Alliance, Announcements." We ask that you supply us with your full name. If you wish to have your organization listed as a supporting organization, again please drop us an email and place in the subject field "Novacadia Alliance, Support." We ask that you supply us with the full name of your organization and full name for a contact person.
If you wish to get involved with the Novacadia Independence Party Steering Committee, then please send us an email and place in the subject field "NIP Steering Committee." Once we have a full name for participation on the Steering Committee, you will be guided to a dedicated Forum for doing as much work as is possible, prior to a physical meeting, in cyber land.
For those wishing to take part in the NIP Steering Committee, please take note of the following:
The primary purpose of the Steering Committee is to ratify the Draft Constitution and Bylaws for the founding of the Novacadia Independence Party of Nova Scotia so that the members of the Steering Committee can proceed towards registration of the party with Elections Nova Scotia.
For anyone wishing to familiarize themselves with the mechanics of founding a new party in Nova Scotia, please go to Elections Nova Scotia.
The target event is to physically bring together the Steering Committee members for a final ratification of the party's Draft Constitution and Bylaws, elect Officers, and sign off on the necessary paper for registration with Elections Nova Scotia. The target date for this meeting is the early Fall, 2008 to be held in Truro. It is hoped that by staging this meeting in Truro, it will make it most convenient and most cost-effective for most Steering Committee participants to attend. Interested parties from other provinces and/or regions will most certainly be welcome to attend as observers.
Action, Long Range:
Registration of a new political party with Elections Nova Scotia is divided into two parts. The first part is the submission of names of officers, purpose of the party, etc. (as outlined above). The second part is to garner 250 signatures from 10 Nova Scotia ridings. In all likelihood, this will keep the founders of the party busy for the latter part of 2008 and the better part of 2009. The party's first AGM/Policy Convention is tentatively slated for the Spring of 2009.
Depending on how quickly the logistics are pulled together (which in turn will depend on the dedication and eagerness of the founding members), with any luck the party could have a handful of candidates in the field for the next provincial election. With the Green Party already somewhat capriciously positioned (Gotta love that sunflower!), the fledgling Atlantica Party getting off the ground, and now yet another upstart to be thrown into the mix, things should be very interesting on the fringe of Nova Scotia politics over the course of the next several years.
Piece of cake, yes?
